The first image presents two men looking puzzled and concerned with what could be a serious thing, their facial expressions seem unimpressed as they are focused intently. The background is dark and dingy with just the light softly shining on their faces drawing your attention to focus upon them.

The second image shows a sense of panic and silence as they are glued to the phone. Potentially to find out some extremely important information. The man who is on the phone has a blood stained top and bandage round his wrist with a concerned stern giving evidence he may be the only one who has access to the information. The man above is dressed more smart and formal as his facial expression shows he is trying to listen closely yet keep look out within the setting.

The third image shows authority and control as the audiences attention is instantly attracted to the key character who stands up straight with his hands on his hips with black sunglasses on to show how he can see the eyes of all the others but they cant see his. His face seems serious and as if he is about to give out orders as the others around him stand unorganised and in a panic fashion.

Positioning

The positioning between the characters show a very icy, awkward atmosphere as there is a clear divide between the two people are are sitting as far away as possible from each other. The tension felt within the room is portrayed to the audience making all feel uncomfortable like their actions are portraying.

The positioning of the axe in this image shows how this is a violent scene and a dangerous occurrence may have just happened. The way the axe is fully wedged into the wood shows the great force used behind it with potentially bad intentions. this creates a tense atmosphere for the audience as they don't know the truth behind the axe.

Image 3's positioning shows two acquaintence's who's body language appears to be leaning in towards each other showing they trust each other and are working together. They are holding the gun high with pride with their fingers on the trigger potentially indicating they are ready and loaded. They have sunglasses on to potentially protect their identity with matching stern faces that are both slightly tilted in to indicate a form of intimidation.

Image 4 shows the positioning of the character to be quite far away and with his back to the camera, this shows an emphasis on the other characters around him which seem to be an army which could represent how the army is much bigger then him. The contrast in difference of size shows the film to be quite violent due to the way the army is looking forward as if they are coming for you and the character is looking away to potentially show he doesn't know what's round the corner.

How does MES convey period?
Looking an image or video, the colouring, props, costumes and angles used allows the audience to acknowledge a certain time period. For example, the characters of a period production will be costumed in long heavy dresses and chimney boy outfits, an ancient atmosphere would be shown through the colouring of a shot; this may be gloomy and dark or even in black and white. Key props would be used for example in an old London Victorian period; horse and carriages; top hats; smoking pipe; may be used to emphasis the feel to the Victorian era.

A- The lighting is bright and lit set, however the use of shadows have darkened areas to create a shadowing effect. This highlights the light between the good from bad within the characters.
B- The lighting is in Black and white with a bright white spotlight on the character, this black and white feature suggests that the film is maybe old or sad and dampens the mood.
C- This image has a bright and natural lighting which makes the audience believe its a realistic and normal.
D- This image has large difference of lights, the background light makes the character be in a shadow causing a sinister and mysterious atmosphere giving a sort of creepy effect.
E- This image has a dark background making the setting hard to establish however the characters are clearly lit up although with a shadowing effect on them to create an uneasy atmosphere.
F- This image uses a more high key lighting to show a more calm and natural scene set in a household kitchen which is realistic to the audience.

Image 1:
  1. The lighting is low key and dark.
  2. the back are lights are where the window is covered with blinds, the key light is the lamp next to the mirror and the filler lights is also the window behind him.
  3. The lighting suggests that it is late at night and the man has only bothered to turn one lamp on due rushing to clean his nose. This also suggest there is danger present.
Image 2:
  1. The lighting is low key.
  2. The back lights are the lights on the field next to the man, the key light is the lamppost and the filler lights in also the light upon the fields.
  3. This low lighting suggests that the man is in despair and lost in the dark with only a lamppost to help him see.
Image 3:
  1. The lighting is low key.
  2. The main light is the light coming from the open door, the filler light is the mans white jacket.
  3. This focus of one key light with no back light causes the viewer to see a contrast of light and dark and maybe good and bad between the characters.
